The 200 Forum - 08 August (all day)
From 200 to Ø: Responding effectively to HIV among MSM in Asia Pacific
The Asia Pacific Coalition on Male Sexual Health (APCOM) will conduct a full-day forum on August 8 on the unique challenges posed by HIV infection among men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgenders (TG) in the region. The interactive consultation is an official pre-conference activity of the 9th International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific (ICAAP 9) being held in Bali. Authorities from around the world armed with the latest epidemiological data will provide important new insights into the directions the epidemic is taking in the region.

The session explores the cross-cutting issues that impact on male-to-male sexual practices, risks and vulnerabilities towards developing more coherent and comprehensive approaches to reduce such risks and vulnerabilities. The issues will include: MSM and Drug Use, MSM and Sex Work, young MSM/youth and MSM and female partners. This meeting is presented by FHI-APRO, WHO-WPRO and APCOM.

Gender variance and male-male sexualities across the global south

This session will bring together experts from southern hemisphere regions (Asia, Latin America, Pacific Islands, Sub-Saharan Africa) to explore similarities and contrasts as they impact the delivery of HIV services for MSM and transgenders. Development of global links and networking on these issues will increase and strengthen advocacy and educational efforts of participants.This meeting is supported by Hivos, NFI and ASAP.

Overcoming legal barriers to comprehensive prevention among MSM and TG in Asia Pacific
Symposium 13_MoSY13_UNDP
The session will contribute to the proposed UNDP regional study that analyzes de-criminalization strategies, related laws and practices in order to mitigate their adverse impact, specifically on MSM and MSM/HIV services. There have been some successes in the region in this regard, which will be reviewed, along and a keen focus on the adverse consequences of such laws so as to create an increased understanding of their negative impacts. This meeting is presented by UNDP Regional Centre for Asia-Pacific and APCOM.

Note: This meeting is open only to men who have sex with men, women who have sex with women and transgenders who are also Muslim. Pre-registration is required (see APCOM Exhibit Booth #14 for more information). We thank you for your cooperation to keep this meeting private.
This unique APCOM caucus meeting provides the opportunity to come together, discuss nad provide support to others face the difficulties of ‘being different’ in a faith-based society. It will also provide the space to discuss local issues, meet with others doing similar work and discuss best ways to begin building supportive environments. Exploring future networking and how APCOM might help will be part of the informal agendas, which will be led by each APCOM community representative and/or alternate for the Pacific.
Transgender (region-wide)
Time and Location To Be Announced
The APCOM caucus meeting for Transgenders will the first time that transgender people and supporters involved in HIV programming for TG have come together on a region-wide basis. Since its inception, APCOM has been committed to helping transgender communities in the region mobilise communities and lay the foundation to establishing a vital and representative presence to advocate for the unique needs of transgender constituencies.
The meeting provides the opportunity to come together and discuss local, national, sub-regional and regional issues, meet with others doing similar work and discuss best ways to begin building supportive environments. Exploring future networking and how APCOM might help will be part of the informal agenda, which will be led by the one or both of the two APCOM Transgender Community Representatives, Lenny Sugiharto of Indonesia and Khun Sittiphan (Hua) Boonyapisomparn of Thailand.

APCOM is maintaining an MSM/TG Communications Focal Point throughout ICAAP for the Coalition of Asia Pacific Regional Networks on HIV/AIDS (7-Sisters). Drop by the APCOM Booth, #14 in the Exhibit Area on the first floor of BICC, from 10 - 13 August, 9am - 6pm (09.00-18.00 daily during ICAAP).
MSM and TG groups can drop off materials for display, space permitting. Up to date infomation on 'all things MSM and TG at ICAAP' will be available.
